The Diversity in Leadership Ottawa (DLO) connects qualified candidates from under-represented groups with free governance training and opportunities to serve on Boards of Directors of not-for-profit organizations.
Eligible candidates identify as:
- First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Indigenous Peoples
- visible minorities/racialized persons
- new Canadians
- LGBTQI2+ persons
- persons with disabilities
Take a Leadership Role
Over 250 positions have been posted with DLO already, and there are new organizations recruiting every week. Our partner organizations vary widely in size and scope, from small local charities to international not-for-profits. There are opportunities to serve on a working board, leveraging your specialized skills and perspective to directly support the work of the organization, as well as opportunities to join policy boards that focus on strategic oversight and accountability. Whatever kind of leadership role you're looking for, our staff will help identify the right opportunities for you!

Access Governance Training at No Cost
- Qualified candidates will have access to training that is created by experts in the field.
- Governance education will give you key knowledge and confidence when applying for Board positions.
- Choose whether to take training in a classroom setting or as e-learning. Or both!
Here’s what will happen when you sign up:
- You will complete an online profile to establish your eligibility along with your skills and interests.
- DLO staff will review and be in touch for an interview.
- You will be set up with free governance training if you require it.
- Then the matching process will be underway!
